The Rev. Laurie McKim – Rector



Laurie has been Church of the Advent’s Rector since May 10, 2015.  She pastors both the Spanish-speaking and English-speaking communities in Advent’s congregation.

She began her ministry at Advent in August of 2012 as assistant Rector supervising youth ministry and Christian education for Advent’s youth, acolytes, lay Eucharistic ministers and lectors, as well as pastoring the Spanish-language community. She also oversaw the pastoral-care ministries and was Chaplain for Advent’s Episcopal Day School in Brownsville.  She continued in this capacity through May of 2015, when she became Rector at Advent.

She was ordained to the priesthood in June of 2012 in the Diocese of West Missouri, having earned a Master of Divinity with a concentration in Hispanic Church Studies from Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest in Austin.  She was ordained a vocational Deacon in July of 2004 in the Diocese of West Missouri.  As a vocational Deacon, she served in many and varied ministries in the Kansas City area, in the Diocese of West Missouri.  She has studied and practiced Benedictine Spirituality since 1998.  Prior to entering seminary, she was a tax accountant for 18 years.  She grew up in the Midwest.

She is the mother of three adult children including son Macajah, who lives with her in Brownsville.  She has one grandson.

Kevin Armstrong – Youth Director


Kevin leads the youth ministry, children’s chapel on Sunday mornings, and assists with morning Chapel at our Day School. He is also our catechist for preparing our teens for Confirmation.
